Community Service Center
OF GREATER CLEVELAND
This space has been provided to the Center by the Chronicle, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Chronicle staff or management.

Honey, I Liberated the Kids--The Adolescent Consortium of Cleveland--a group of schooland agency-based service providers meeting monthly during the school year--met at the Center for the first time to explore the issue of gay and lesbian youth. Center staff and four members of PRYSM, the Center's youth group, discussed the importance and rewards of reaching this population.
The Children's Aid Society also recently contacted the Center about a gay-lesbian youth in-service and the county mental health board has sent a survey to local agencies asking what services they are providing in this area.
PRYSM is still seeking Adult Advisors from the African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American communities for our ongoing support group every Saturday. If you're over 25 and are not intimidated by teenagers, please consider making a big difference in a young person's life.
Torrid Journals and Burning Love Letters Dept.-The Northeast Ohio Lesbian and Gay Archives was officially announced at the Western Reserve Historical Society Board meeting last month. A few grumbles resulted, but, after all, the Society is housed in the former mansion of Leonard Hanna, a gay man whose charitable legacies re-made Cleveland's cultural map. So not too much fuss was endured.
The Archives' new brochure--our gratitude to Scot Marous and Donna Drozda for their contributed graphics and artwork-was unveiled at the Midwest Archives Conference held November 5-7 at the Sheraton City Centre Hotel.
We definitely need volunteers able to give some strong leadership to this program on a weekly basis (3 hours). If you love lesbian-gay history and have good organizational skills (of records, personal papers, etc.), please give the Volunteer Manager a call any Saturday between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Such Architectural Glories--The renovation of the Center forges forward--if a bit behind schedule. Our progress report:
Permits: Acquired
Demolition: Completed
Construction: 20 percent finished Volunteers: 57
Donated materials: $18,000 worth
Individuals and groups or businesses have donated $11,000 of the $15,000 needed. Special thanks to all who've given time, materials, or checks. A tip of the hard hat to Mix Drinkery, Northern Ohio Coalition (NOCI), Cleveland City Country Dancers, Integrity, Stonewall Cleveland, Stallions, CODA, North Coast Men's Chorus, and the many community members who've given.
Current biggest need: acoustical ceiling tiles and grid.
Chairpersons of the Board-We welcome Joan Organ, Bill Tregoning and Al Cowger to our Board of Trustees. This volunteer capacity is a crucial one to the stability and growth of the Center, so a point of recognition to these three individuals for assuming the mantle.
Why send a present when you can give a card? For the second year in a row, local designers have created an extraordinary holiday card as a fundraiser for the Living Room. These gorgeous creatures are a great way to: a) give something beautiful; b) raise AIDS consciousness; and, c) support the Living Room. Call the Living Room at 522-1998 to find out how you can see these cards and purchase them to send.
December 1 is also World AIDS Day. The Center for Contemporary Art will have events throughout the day [see story page 14] and Bravo cable TV is hosting a telethon for HIV with most of the pledges going to the Living Room. Please call with your support for both the drive and Bravo's leadership in the fight against AIDS.
Community Service Department--A set of keys with a Techguard alarm device left at the Monotones Hayride are at the Center awaiting to be claimed.
For further info about the Center or how you can get involved, call 522-1998
